Extramural study requires devotion and ongoing dedication. This is so much easier to sustain when you enjoy the process, like a favourite hobby, and when you don't feel alone. After nearly 20 years providing academic correspondence courses in theology, we have learned how to make home study more collegiate, more supportive and more successful for you.
That's why our distance tutors keep in contact with course participants during the whole course process... with ongoing help, comments and encouragement.
This Mentored Reading Course looks at the impact upon biblical studies of some of the current reading strategies employed in answer to the questions: How do the texts function? How do readers read? and What does it mean to read the Bible in our current world? Among the reading strategies studied will be reader response and narrative criticisms, as well as considering the implications of feminist, ideological and post-colonial criticisms and readings from different social locations. Participants will have the opportunity to read and engage with discussions of current analytical issues as well as articles where these methods and approaches are being tested and used in the reading of biblical texts.
A component of this course will require the use of email and web browsing.
