This course will introduce students to the study of women in Christian history, and to significant aspects of the historical situation of women within the institutional church. This is a survey course covering the period from the first century CE to the present day. Attention will be given to the various methodological questions involved in the study of "women's history", to the status and roles of women in both Catholic and Protestant traditions, and to dominant theological teachings about women. During the course a selected number of topics will be covered in some depth.
